James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes, portrayed by Sebastian Stan, is a character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) known as the Winter Soldier.

Brainwashed and mentally programmed by Hydra after seemingly falling to his death during World War II, Bucky was transformed into a highly skilled assassin with a metal arm. He was cryogenically frozen between missions, ensuring his longevity and deadly effectiveness.

The Winter Soldier's first appearance in the MCU was in the film *Captain America: The Winter Soldier* (2014). In it he served as the primary antagonist, tasked with eliminating threats to Hydra's plan to destabilize the world.

Throughout his time as the Winter Soldier, he carried out numerous assassinations, leaving a trail of victims in his wake. Eventually, Captain America helps him recover his memories, leading him down a path of redemption.
